The legislative lowdown: August 2024

August was the quietest month we’ve had so far in terms of pay transparency legislation, but with many state legislatures on summer break, that’s not unexpected. Although there were no new legislative updates last month, the push for pay transparency is far from slowing down. As pay legislation continues to roll out in various regions, it’s more important than ever for organizations to prepare their managers.

Equipping managers with a deep understanding of compensation practices and philosophies—and teaching them how to communicate these changes effectively—is key to ensuring they can confidently address employee questions. Well-trained managers not only boost transparency but also build trust and engagement throughout the company, leading to a more cohesive workplace culture.

The importance of equipping managers with the information they need to communicate pay is why I moderated the “How to Train Managers on Compensation Practices and Communications” panel during Compference24.

In this session, our expert panelists shared real-world experiences about how to collaborate with people managers on everything from market pricing strategies and pay increases to communication around compensation decisions.
