Payscale’s Remote Work and Return-to-Office Pulse Survey Now Open for Participation

One of the hottest topics blowing up in the news right now is return to office mandates following the expansion of remote work in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Surveys are a useful way to know how other organizations are reacting to changing norms.

Currently, Payscale is running a pulse survey for employers on the topic of remote work and return-to-office policies. Responses to the survey will be analyzed and turned into a whitepaper for employers as part of our 2023 Remote Work Report scheduled for late September.

The Remote Work Pulse Survey is only a ten-minute survey. Questions are most relevant for executives, HR leaders, and compensation professionals in organizations of all sizes and industries headquartered anywhere in the world.

Sample questions include:

  • Is remote work impacting how you compete for talent?
  • Do you consider workplace flexibility to be a critical benefit in attracting talent?
  • Which do you think is more effective for getting employees to work in offices: carrots or sticks?
  • Have you experienced resistance or unwillingness from employees to return to offices?
  • Did your organization make promises to employees sometime in the last few years that remote work would continue to be an option and then renege on that promise?
  • What are the top reasons driving your organization to require employees to work in offices at least some of the time?
  • What are the strategic reasons your organization embraced remote first or fully remote work?
  • Does your executive leadership trust employees working from home to be productive?
  • What do you believe is having the most impact on productivity declining in the United States?
  • What best describes your pay methodology for remote or distributed employees?

Some questions are only presented to participants based on question logic from preceding questions. For example, only employers who describe their organization as traditional (on-site), hybrid, or split-by-job-type will be asked questions related to return-to-office mandates while employers who describe their organizations as remote-first or fully remote (no offices) will be asked about their strategic reasons for adopting that model.

The Remote Work Pulse Survey is open for participation until August 16, 2023. We encourage survey participants to share the survey link with their peers for broader reach so we can get a healthy sample of responses. The more responses we get, the more in-depth analysis we can do. Although not as large as our annual Compensation Best Practices Report, the survey informing the Remote Work Report targets hundreds of responses from a variety of organization to provide up-to-date insights on a fast-changing topic.

Participation in Payscale’s Remote Work Survey includes being added to the communication list for the publication of the results. Responses are otherwise anonymous.
