Program Worker Does The Work Of A Youth Worker WITHOUT Pay.
Youth Worker:
Pros: The job allows independence, decision making and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and kids with behavioral issues.
Cons: The amount of responsibility for the pay is not reasonable. I run a work program doing firewood and the school district profits not only monetarily but the students benefit from the work experience. They learn appropriate work behavior. In addition I am a CPR qualified instructor, a red seal journeyman carpenter, and I have a 4 year honors degree and a year of courses in clinical counselling. I should be paid at the very minimum the same wage as a teacher, instead of an educational assistant. Who has nowhere near the responsibility I do.
January 2014
Optimistic Helper.
Youth Worker:
Pros: I enjoying listening and participating in the conversations that are being shared by youths. Growing and learning from one another on a daily basis.
Cons: The lack of communication between staff and the unexpected events that unfold.
January 2014
Additional Hours.
Youth Worker:
Always go through policies and procedures before you apply so you are well clued up and won't get taken for a ride.
