The Writer's Billboard.
Writer / Author:
Whatever field you choose to write in, to a large extent you will still be designing a billboard for your services. Billboards are designed to convey the message in 6 seconds. Be prepared to present your abilities in those few seconds by establishing what area you want to write in and then: 1) Draw their interest. -- What are the target audience's most generally familiar buzzwords? Don't aim for the sophisticated audience; go for the low level HR rep who keeps hearing about "you know - like Apple". 2) Establish your credibility up front. If you want to write information about medical devices though you may never use any of those 30 hours you have in anatomy and chemistry, your degree or experience should be in something related. Unfortunately, writing should be a minor or will be "proof by demonstration". 3) Talk results in terms of statistics, metrics, or dollars. Don't fret being caught out in exaggeration. Consider, what have celebrities got that you haven't? A perceived image.
