What is it like working as a Visitor Services Manager?

June 2017
Visitor Services Manager in Washington:
Pros: Washington state is a liberal, outdoor orientated beautiful place to live and work.
Cons: The grey days can get into ones soul at times.

Managers of Volunteers Are Unsung Heroes.
Visitor Services Manager:
Consider carefully your desire to stay in the field of program management when that program you manage is chiefly staffed by volunteers. The field of volunteer management is sorely misunderstood and underrated in value despite the wide range of skills it requires. The level of income you will be able to achieve will unlikely match your expectations. Be sure to add additional skills and responsibilities so that you can move to other management areas fairly early in your career.

No job isn't mine to do!
Visitor Services Manager:
Pros: The variety. I handle everything from staffing, buying for the retail, budgets, new designs, tours, dealing with the public, giving tours. Any job there is to be done can see me doing it at sometime.
Cons: Not enough time. Time wasted in meetings and 'corporate speak'
