Once you get beyond middle management and into larger more senior roles, your ability to make decisions and lead people is more important than your ability to build a financial model or do detailed variance analysis. It becomes more important to learn how to tell a succinct and credible story amongst your peers and C-Level executives then it is to "know the numbers". Also, the ability to expand your skills into other operational areas of the business and be a business partner becomes critical.
