What is it like working as a Veterinarian?

June 2015
Veterinarian:
Very stressful, long hours, pay is low for the amount of work and stress involved.
April 2015
Must be good w/ Animals & PEOPLE!
Veterinarian:
You need to be a people person as well, they pay you! Lots of stress at times, & sleepless nights, due to Emergencies. If you are greedy for money, you must not show that to customers that are paying listening to you talk about the next appt.s money all the time. No one that is paying for their beloved animal wants to think that your only in it for the money. It's just proper etiquette! Be prepared for long hours at times. & you will deal with all classes of people & seems they are paying you, they deserve your respect. The reward of helping an animal that would die without you, is what will keep you going. Along with the money.
November 2014
Veterinarian:
Pros: Meet people. Financially rewarding.
Cons: Difficult clients. Services can be expensive. Long hours sometimes. Stress.
February 2014
Don't become a Veterinarian between 2015 to 2030.
Veterinarian:
Sorry, you are screwed. If you are typical, you owe over $150K and you are competing with many others for a job that is under $60k. You, and many like you, cannot afford to buy a practice, and practices will be closing all around you as I, and people like me, retire. Rural America, communities under 100K and average family earnings of under $60k will have to drive long distances to get Veterinary services, probably at a Corporate office that will have a minimum $500 out the door. If you cannot afford it, don't come in, cause they don't care about the animal or the client. They only think of profit. They small town Vet is a dying breed being replaced by local Not-For-Profits / Humane Societies that hire marginally competent Vets, who again, do their hours and go home not caring about the results.
