Systems Administrator:
Get every certification that you can. Start with CompTIA A+, Network+, ITIL, then move on to a more specialized subject like CCNA, MCSE, UNIX, DB2, etc. Managers want someone with specialized skills more than generalized skills.

Finish school. Get certs. Change jobs to get a more broad experience. Don't pigeon hole yourself to one OS, language or piece of hardware.

Be Prepared To Learn.
Systems Administrator:
Be willing to learn, you will never know everything about systems administrating until the next problem arise. Always be willing to learn, adapt follow instructions and guidelines whilst thinking outside the box. Learn every department in your company and set up "what if" scenarios, look for weaknesses in departments and correct/implement before there's a problem. You need to be able to do any job within the business to be successful, from receiving, inventory, picking and packing to dispatching and all administrative relative works.
