June 2014
Self And System Awareness.
Staff Nurse:
Learn how to maneuver situations with grace. Do not make enemies/do not gossip about others. But do not allow others to take advantage of you. Know your HR policies/nursing board regulations, legal pitfalls and how to navigate the system to work for you. It's not at all about patient care once you get out of school. If your work situation is causing you grief - do not take too long to make a change. Sometimes the system is faulty and you cannot fix it. If you cannot work in confines of a hospital then do some research in other avenues for nursing: legal work, auditing, case management, home health/hospice, coding etc. Good luck!
