Staff Geologist at Engineering Startup.
Staff Geologist:
Pros: Experience and employer flexibility are the two good qualities of the position. Working as a junior staff at a startup engineering firm allows for employees to gain valuable experience much sooner than at a larger company. Less senior employees means that work which would typically go to a mid/senior level employee instead goes to junior staff. Additionally, project manager tend to be more flexible with scheduling, hours, and PTO in general. Less work is usually available, which allows for flexibility in the workplace. .
Cons: Fewer projects and low pay/benefits. There is less work in down periods for small engineering firms. Additionally, pay tends to be much lower due to manager attempting to keep low overhead costs.
