Challenging but rewarding
Software Development Manager:
Pros: We get to make a difference in how people work or even the quality of service they can give to their clients. It can be very gratifying to make such a difference and also to achieve the requirements the client has expressed, generally in a simple wishlist. It is also truly fun to constantly be learning new languages, tools and methods.
Cons: If you stop learning or at least keep up with the latest trends, you quickly lose market value. Yet it is impossible to learn everything, so you have to find a balance between expertise and scope of knowledge. Client's requirements will always change which can get frustrating if not properly managed. High stress in certain periods.

Software Development Manager:
Pros: Confident in own abilities to work within the system as is.
emerging technologies are always making a hallenge new again.
Cons: Typical it in a room with no windows and cubicles..
coding is always the same.
slowness of change for new and better techniques.
lack of proper standards and proper project management means more cowboy coding and more maintenance than necessary

You need to Plan everthing. Train your people regularly. Mentor them to use common sense with in the rules. help them to delive a quality solution. learn to manage people's imotions and egos in some cases
