Social Worker (MSW) Reviews

What is it like working as a Social Worker (MSW)?

May 2022
Capitalism is Hell.
Social Worker (MSW) in Pittsburgh:
Pros: Getting money to just barely survive
Cons: People assume the cost of living here is a far less then larger cities like New York, Los Angeles, Denver, etc. That is absolutely not true and a lot of remote companies are taking advantage.

Good place to tolerate lies.

Social Worker (MSW) in Grand Rapids:

March 2020
Unappreciated.
Social Worker (MSW) in Detroit:
Pros: I like working with the population of patients here.
Cons: The workflow structure between Nurse Case Managers and Social Workers is highly biased in the nurse's favor. While everyone is under Case Management. RN are not required to have an advanced degree and only take care of Home Health and Medical Equipment. Social Workers on the other hand are required to have a MSW and are responsible for all placements (SNF, Group Home, ALF), guardianship cases, family meetings, insurance authorization, APS, CPS Referrals etc. We are also the "go to" profession for anything that doctors, nurses, administration doesn't want to deal with. We are also to blame for every patient exceeding the length of stay set by the administration.
December 2019
Ivy league educated therapist makes volunteer salary; while making the mosy difference in the world.
Social Worker (MSW) in Litchfield:
Pros: We get very privileged clients who end up greatly appreciating our work. They ate especially the people who dony appreciate what we do at first. Their families are brought back together.
Cons: For some reason, working in a wealthy town, everyone expects free or cheap labor - why we are a nonprofit.
November 2019
Rewarding but stressful.
Social Worker (MSW) in Killeen:
Pros: Empowering families.
Cons: Not enough staff for the need in the area.

Social Worker (MSW) in Louisville:
I worked at one of the rural locations which was a lot better run than the downtown offices or so I have been told. The work culture was good, team atmosphere was nice and I was lucky to have great supervision. Benefits and pay were very low though. Stress was always high due to working in a community mental health agency but it’s amplified being in a rural area with limited resources.
