Social Media Manager:
Learn everything you can about social media. If you aren't coordinating that role yet, find ways to support your organization's efforts, or reach out to a local non-profit organization to see if you can help coordinate some of their social media elements. Pros and Cons of being a Social Media Manager.
Social Media Manager:
Pros: I get to engage with people online in social media, blog about news in the urban communities, and I get to be creative and have a creative voice.

May 2015
Fantastic work flexibility, ability to use creativity.
Social Media Manager:
Pros: I really enjoy that I get to flex my creative muscles for a strategic purpose. The best part of working in a higher ed social media capacity is getting to be involved in a thriving academic environment. There are so many stories to be told on a college campus, and different audiences to work with. The days are never the same, and I really appreciate that.
Cons: Bureaucracy can make doing things that are considered ground breaking or creative difficult. Endless meetings.
April 2015
It's more than Facebook status updates.
Social Media Manager:
Pros: Opportunity to learn new technology and an ever changing communications landscape to keep interest and innovation levels high.
Cons: Everyone is an expert because they once posted a Facebook status update that got 50 likes. Management mistakenly think they understand the job despite having zero knowledge or experience and as a result, you end up being project managed by someone who doesn't know what you do.
