April 2016
Hotel Revenue Management.
Revenue Manager:
Pros: This field of Hotel Management is extremely dynamic, needs very frequently dynamic work culture, based on hotel occupancies, competition hotel pricing, season, week day and week end pricing, keeping yourself updated to latest best practices in the insdustry, being updated about SEM, SEO for the Hotels Website, and hence your thinking is perpetual as once handling this role is responsible for achieving and optimising revenues for the Hotels from E-Distribution, since this segment is growing day by day in India, this really matters a lot, as every one is going online, whether its retail industry, service industry such as restaurants, holidays, hotels, airlines, etc etc. Hence its booming industry, will take hotel industry and has already taken to new horizons, with more and more people are now getting Mobile and Computer savvy. I can see a tremendous growth in this industry and taking up revenues for hotel industry up to 20-30% contribution for the hotels pan india for Rooms Division.
Cons: One limitation have seen in City Hotels, with increasing inventory, the pricing have reduced, expenses for hotels are going up every year, taxes are increasing every year and so people keep the same expectation or high expectations even if they are paying much lesser in 2016 compared to 2010 or 2012, one staying in 5 Star hotel should not expect 5 Star luxury experience. So people are yet to learn and differentiate as to what to expect at what price. Since people have the access to put reviews which another person may find inappropriate. Guest staying in 4 Star hotel in beach destination like Goa will be paying much higher than 5 star hotel in city hotel like Pune or Bangalore, but people fail to understand how much and what to expect in city 5 star hotel and 4 star Resort in beach destination, and hence end up putting reviews inappropriately as they have paid much lesser in city and much more in 4 star beach resort.
