Retoucher Reviews
What is it like working as a Retoucher?
December 2020
New York, New York is very competitive.
Retoucher in New York:
Pros: I had a lot of opportunities to make connections, learn a lot about my field by actively participating, and also know I can always pivot into a different line of work with the same opportunities to grow and learn. Being surrounded by like-minded people is exciting and a constant source of inspiration.
Cons: New York is very dense in any field you go into, so there is a lot of competition. Everything is extremely fast-paced with short deadlines, so you have to be on it, full-tilt, all of the time. It is easy to get exhausted, burnt out, and get a little lost. If you have the right employer, they can rally you to feel motivated and excited to perform. If you have the wrong employer, you can feel like a failure and easily become disgruntled and disenchanted. It's easy to lose your way unless you learn to surround yourself with the right people, or become your own boss.
September 2015
Solid studio job.
Retoucher:
Pros: Good culture, fun atmosphere. Good job for an artist.
Cons: Tedious projects often. Lots of slow boring periods.
