What is it like working as a Retail Store Assistant Manager?

April 2014
Be Happy.
Retail Store Assistant Manager:
Make sure it is what you want to do. Be prepared for uncooperative customers. Learn your product.
March 2014
Low Wages For Managers.
Retail Store Assistant Manager:
Pros: I work with a great team and my general manager makes sure we have a work/life balance. I currently have 5 weeks of paid vacation each year and will top out at 6 weeks this September.
Cons: The low wages for managers. After almost ten years of service with the company, seven of those years I have been in some form of manager, I do not even bring home 20K a year. It is hard to give a job your all when you feel as under appreciated as I do.
January 2014
Am I Paid Enough?
Retail Store Assistant Manager:
Pros: Drinking tea and learning about health benefits of ingredients.
Cons: The company's expectations of me against what I'm actually being paid. Added stress. The "trendy and preppy" approach to customer service which isn't my natural demeanor.

Cons: Pressure to ensure merchandising and customer service and operations is meeting company expectations.
December 2013
14 Years Experience in Retail Operations.
Retail Store Assistant Manager:

Cons: Work during holidays. Less time for family.
November 2013
Satisfied
Retail Store Assistant Manager:
Pros: I like the people that I look after-the customers and the mostly great staff members that I work with. The owner is also an open door person and is willing to listen to any concerns. Owner is generous to host a Christmas party every year for the staff. Staff interactions with quizzes, etc. to keep morale up and pot lucks though out the year.
Cons: Drama amongst staff members that is not always dealt with in a timely fashion or not at all. Some customers are extremely rude.
