Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) Reviews

What is it like working as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)?

January 2017
Portland is an excellent, small community to work in.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) in Portland:
Pros: I work 3 miles from home, and my children's school.
Cons: There are limited jobs available because most people keep their jobs here forever.

What I wished I knew.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
Get ready for lower pay, not a great chance of full-time work or benefits. Be prepared to be asked to Sell dentistry I.e.: Crowns, Night Guards, Whitening. Not to be utilized to your full potential of your education and second guessed by your employer.

Love it.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
Pros: I love being a hygienist, it's a job that I look forward to! I love restorative hygiene, it's always different!
Cons: I don't like the office I'm at currently. I'm being micromanaged, and I'm not being given the hours I was told I would get.
June 2015
Physical toll on your body.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
This job is very tough on the body physically and most offices don't provide any benefits.
April 2015
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
Pros: Job satisfaction, making people smile, the flexibility, hours, new materials, equiptment, patients, talking to new people, list goes on and on.
Cons: No clear expectations of employee production and not being valued & utilized for your true abilities, no incentive to value employee solution/opinion on problems. No compromise.
February 2015
Perfect Fit.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
The dynamics of every dental practice are very different. Find a practice that shares the same vision you have for dental health and where you have the freedom to implement treatment as you are comfortable doing so based on your education and experience. Never underestimate the value of small consistent changes in moving patients to a state of better oral health.
February 2015
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH):
Pros: Building relationships with patients and staff. Teaching people how to keep their mouths healthy.
Cons: Pressure to produce... Shortened appointments in order to see more patients a day.
