July 2015
Never a dull moment!
Psychiatric Nurse (RN):
Pros: Variety of tasks. Fast paced and mentally challenging. Watching my patients go from acutely psychotic to fully functioning individuals.
Cons: Taxing on your emotions. Not being able to educate patients due to their mental status. Cannot cure my patients because I work in an acute care setting. I believe we accommodate drug seekers. Our hospital tends to be the dumping ground for all psych patients that are turned away by everyone else. The lack of protocol when it comes to admitting forensic psych patients. Large employee turnover due to lack of adherence to hospital and state policies.
