I will say that proposal engineer is a low profile but a very important job. But before getting into this field one should spend 3 to 4 years on actual engineering field so that he/she will know what products suits best to customer requirements. Along with this one should also have commercial knowledge and should know about how companies do business. This is not a job for the one who wants to remain technical all the life. But, I can surely say that in order to be a good proposal engineer, a person should have a solid experience on the field.
