Expensive and getting more expensive.
Process Development Engineer in Galway:
Pros: I enjoy the medical hub that it has become, and the strong attempts at work/life balance that most companies employ. I also like Galway as a place of living, very rich culture. Being such a small city, everything is easy to get to.
Cons: Transport is terrible, public transport can be slower than walking to and from destinations. Owning a car doesn't ease the traffic problem, and due to small and densely crowded roads all over the main city area and surrounding suburbs, cycling is just as difficult and dangerous. Weather is pretty extreme most of the year. Due to the large amount of jobs available in the medical field, there's a culture of companies not valuing their employees. This also means that you are paid according to the lowest marketable average on your field, and instead of promoting or salary increase based on merits, you're paid according to the national average, and not a cent more.
