Principal Software Engineer Reviews
What is it like working as a Principal Software Engineer?
July 2019
Great place to work with autonomy.
Principal Software Engineer in Ashburn:
Pros: Freedom to make decisions, trust given to me
Cons: Office building (but could be changing), commute

Good With Caveats.
Principal Software Engineer in Denver:
Pros: Mentoring other developers, shaping software architecture, and having a say in critical technology decisions.
Cons: Our parent company, Lifetime is wholly disconnected not only from what we do, but also from the software industry as a whole. So they are not very adroit at understanding things like culture, work environment, or compensation. It's the first company I've worked for where there are no opportunities for any sort of stock ownership nor is there any bonus structure or real clear path for advancement. They (Lifetime) really don't seem to understand the demographics of the endurance athlete market either. It leads to high levels of frustration from a UX and competitive feature angle. They (again Lifetime) are doing much to cripple us, perhaps inadvertently, largely due to a poor hiring decision they made a few years ago involving a Director level position where their hire was incredibly inept and basically wasted a large amount of goodwill which might be why some of these conditions exist today. The sad part of that, is that now they do have competent folks in leadership positions instead of the buffoon (who had zero technical experience, but was quite into jumping on trends he did not understand) prior.

Challenging, satisfying, hard, and interesting.
Principal Software Engineer in Colorado Springs:
Pros: If you are willing to challenge yourself you can get the support and tools to help you succeed. Not for everyone and as is often the case, satisfaction can depend on your manager or management chain. For me the 80/20 rule seems close with the vast majority of my management chain being very good to excellent!
Cons: Years of in-house experience on the job often does not result translate in competitive pay increases. Leaving and coming back after a few years will often result in a big pay increase for no other reason than market demand even if doing the same or less demanding job.

Built my career.
Principal Software Engineer in Burlington:
Pros: I get to do a job I enjoy for the most part and am paid well for it. Feel incredibly lucky and grateful for the opportunity.
Cons: Stress of having to be on call for potential production issues
March 2019
Quality of Life.
Principal Software Engineer in Kalispell:
Pros: Everything except pay and compensation
Cons: Pay and compensation
February 2019
Fair.
Principal Software Engineer in Singapore:
Pros: Stability
Cons: Micro management
January 2019
Opportunities limited only be your imagination.
Principal Software Engineer in Singapore:
Pros: You are encouraged to pursue any opportunities within the company, with all the support available. You will be given trainings to pursue the desired opportunities.
Colleagues and management are very understanding and supportive of your personal needs, especially if you are a caregiver of a child or elderly.
The amenities in the building and in the vicinity are generally affordable and with wide variety. Affordable food at staff cafeteria. In-house Gym with showering facilities.
Cons: While the workstation provided is sufficient, I wish the company can refresh the hardware and software a little more regularly to be more current.
