Personal Caregiver Reviews

What is it like working as a Personal Caregiver?

September 2016
Personal Caregiver:
Daily responsibility include daily living skills, transportation to Dr appointments, logging vitals and Daily events throughout the day, giving medications including insulin shots, grocery shopping, cooking, house cleaning, and laundry upkeep. Also, yard duties and any other thing he likes to do, for example, fishing and camping. Also, experienced in pulling a trailer and camper whenever and wherever he wants me to.

I appreciate watching each penny spent.
Personal Caregiver:
But when more is expected of me, who has been in the home more than 75% longer than all other. I really like that I get this opportunity, but my pay is the same as those who just started at the home, and have much less experience. I feel unsppreciated then. I feel I have good communication with the family, but am told they just pay one rate for the job. This is different than what the mother says, who expects perfectionistic qualities. Also, we are told to take care of the home as if only the father lives there, providing no care for mom, who is needing a bit more, and is there to tell you when things are not perfect... It is unfortunate, that they don't require others to complete the daily tasks, saying they won't do it, then expect me to double my load for the day, still at the same wage, which is the lowest wage a care company charges. One person takes a nap on the job, but they are ok with it, and I'm told he doesn't know how to keep house, so we won't make him.

See the Smiles on the patients faces and family.
Personal Caregiver:
Pros: Seeing family and their love ones happy and that I do care about their loved one..i am a happy person and can make the family laugh and smile on the way I work..
Cons: Seeing that we don't live for ever.......and the patient gets worse and we know where it goes from there and it hard on the family..I want my patient to remember how it is living now and wonderful place where we are going and make the family comfortable when the time comes..

What To Know.
Personal Caregiver:
Find out salary, days on & off clock, and responsibilities before start job. Learn about the person you will be working with and for. Know what the 'rules' are so there is no contradictions or misunderstandings. Know the person's schedule (i.e. When to take meds, when to shower, nap time, church, etc)
