Payroll Accountant Reviews

What is it like working as a Payroll Accountant?

June 2017
Consistency.
Payroll Accountant in Owensboro:
Pros: I enjoy the technical part of my job. Actual calculations, verifications, etc... That are concrete with no reliance on someone else to provide input are my favorite aspects. I also enjoy calculating variances and explaining things that aren't understood. Some people want to know the net effect of different tax elections and salary deferrals. I also enjoy being a part of things. I get to do training at our orientations so new employees get a better understanding of our time keeping system.
Cons: Office culture, politics of who you know/work under gets you better pay/schedule, etc... It seems like so many employees are angry at the world, but can't ask for changes because we are a "service provider" and have to accommodate EVERYONE! There are so many employees that don't seem to accomplish anything on a daily basis, but continue to be employed. There is no central location for point of contact. Our front desk staff could hand out certain forms for filling out (direct deposit form, w-4 update form, voucher election form, change of address form, etc...) but employees are sent to different departments to get specific forms. :/ Absolute chaos instead of consistency. One person can do this, but the next can't.

Love it.
Payroll Accountant in Centurion:
Pros: The culture is very deadline orientated. Love working in a structured environment.
Cons: Stress levels can be high sometimes when it comes to month end but that wont get me down.
April 2017
Stick It Out Through the Hard Times.
Payroll Accountant in Camarillo:
All places of employment have highs and lows, nice people and difficult people. There can be stressful times that could make you feel like giving up - but DON'T! Stick it out and the storm will pass. After which, you'll enjoy the rainbow.
January 2017
The Accountant and the city.
Payroll Accountant in Johannesburg:
Pros: It's a competitive environment, lots of room for growth.
Cons: Traffic is a nightmare but it's part of the game.
July 2016
Challenging.
Payroll Accountant:
Pros: Important, challenging, morphing, detailed.
Cons: Unflexible, stressful, ungrateful.
May 2015
Correlation of accounting principles to Payroll.
Payroll Accountant:
Sharpen your skills and have a general understanding of all accounting practices. I wish I had taken more accounting classes at an earlier age, as it would have helped me obtain my Certification in Payroll a lot faster.
