Museum Registrar Reviews
What is it like working as a Museum Registrar?
November 2015
Registrars do a little bit of everything.
Museum Registrar:
You are going to be doing more things than you expect and in a broader range of areas than you expect. You will need to adapt quickly, develop a thick skin, be good at juggling multiple projects, and think in the long and short term. Develop your technology skills: database management and digital asset management are critical to managing all of the information/files you are responsible for. In many ways, a registrar is an enforcer, but master the skill of the soft sell to get other staff on board with you. One "cop" is not so useful solo, but if you can get the whole staff aware of your concerns (safety of the objects, pests, environment etc), you don't have to be everywhere at once and you can save your "enforcer" persona for big issues.
