Museum Educator Reviews

What is it like working as a Museum Educator?

April 2023
Fulfilling to the soul, not the pockets.
Museum Educator in Portland:
Pros: Teaching people of all ages about science brings me joy. I enjoy seeing curious minds learning new things.
Cons: We are understaffed and under paid. Many departments on the floor are dependent on individuals doing the jobs of 2-3 people at once. Middle management is not given authority to make decisions that would help their departments succeed. Many full time employees federally qualify as "low income" due to low wages.
May 2019
Lots of responsibility not reflected in compensation or job title.
Museum Educator in Chicago:
Pros: Being around the children and the other staff in my department
Cons: not appreciated by upper management, overall unorganized leadership and management, lack of communication between departments, not appreciated or valued as an employee
September 2014
Never A Dull Moment.
Museum Educator:
Pros: Good working environment and great animals interactions and husbandry.
Cons: Pay scale is very low for the work that is provided.
