What is it like working as a Mechanical Designer?
April 2015
Get it in writing.
Mechanical Designer:
Make sure all the promises are written down and signed.
March 2015
Mechanical Designer:
Pros: The opportunity to gain a lot of experience in short time.
Cons: It's far from where I live, a little bit low salaries.
January 2015
Corporate Culture.
Mechanical Designer:
Pros: Challenging work.
Cons: My talents are not recognized.
November 2014
Designer to Engineer, consider it.
Mechanical Designer:
Consider continuing your education and obtaining a mechanical engineering degree from an accredited institution. The designer positions are slowly decreasing to be replaced by engineers...if you can't fight 'em, join 'em.
October 2014
Great Engineering Group, Flexibility, Low Stress Level.
Mechanical Designer:
Pros: I love being involved with new product development of medical devices and products that are used to help people. I help oversee the upkeep of our line of Exam tables, clinician's seating, and OEM pads and surfaces. The engineering group are a great bunch on a personal and professional level. The company is very flexible when outside personal needs arise. The company also supports and encourages those who seek to continue their education.
Cons: The communication between departments is not smooth (between Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Quality Control, etc...). This is because different departments do not share the same priorities. This often results in simple projects exceeding deadlines and budgeted hours.
October 2014
Detailed, Challenging, Calculating, Fast Paced, Stressful.
Mechanical Designer:
Pros: Problem solving, creative, interesting.
Cons: Lack of information from sales personnel that is required to create the work.
May 2014
Even Cost Of Living Increases Are Hard To Get.
Mechanical Designer:
Get all you ever want to make up front, you will not see more than cost of living increases and they are rare and disguised as promotion or merit raises.
