Laser Operator Reviews
What is it like working as a Laser Operator?
March 2016
Challenging and rewarding.
Laser Operator:
Pros: The diversity that comes with the job from programming to understanding how the machine settings effect different materials. The operator needs both hands on experience as well as knowledge of laser theory to produce quality parts. Sometimes the operator must engineer an out of the box solution to solve a complex issue, such as cracking in ceramic due to laser induced stresses. This often requires both a program modification as well as machine adjustments.
Cons: Even with 6 years experience, most employers wont pay over 18 dollars an hour. Laser operation requires a high skill set that not everyone can master or even comprehend. With the rapidly rising costs of living, a laser operator may only be able to earn enough to keep their heads above the water.
