November 2016
The work is very rewarding, artistic and challenging.
Jeweler, Precious Stone / Metal Worker:
Pros: I love working with and manipulating metal. I love working with the precious metals and stones. I get to continuously learn new techniques and my skill set is constantly growing.
Cons: It can be very stressful working in a small studio. I am currently the only experienced person on the team and trying to balance getting work done and training new members. The growing business has a high demand for quantity and we have few hands.

For Love, Not Money.
Jeweler, Precious Stone / Metal Worker:
If you wish to have fulfillment and appreciation for your work, go into being an owner/operator of your work. This can be done either as a designer/contractor, or store owner. Be in contact with the people who will be wearing what you make if possible - they are the ones who will appreciate your work the most. Working for someone else can be rewarding if they truly appreciate what you do and show it well. Often you will wind up in a back room with no contact with the outside world or ever hear about it when "ya done good", only when "ya F#@*ed up", even when you follow the directions given. All in all, I still love what I do and can't imagine doing too many other things.
