Information Technology (IT) Director Reviews

What is it like working as an Information Technology (IT) Director?

June 2016
Wasted my life being loyal to my employer.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
I have been with the company 27 years. I get paid weekly. No retirement. No health ins. Working for a pay check only. A total waste and a huge life mistake. Is it to late.
June 2016
The stresses of working in the IT industry.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
Learn to be very patient and never take anything personal.
June 2016
Expanded Experience.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
Obtain experience in a variety of companies across multiple industries.
April 2016
Its not as hard as it seems initially.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
Talk with your superiors often; get clear on your responsibilities; and work with your boss to design the first 6 months of goals/priorities; work hard daily, but always make time to cultivate relationships.
April 2016
Slow to change, fast to adapt.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
One of the biggest things I learned was the need to adapt to new issues quickly, and resolves issues yesterday, but not to force blanket changes on my staff quickly. Don't let people try to push you around. Be understanding and considerate, but stand firm on your principles.
March 2016
Underpromise; Over-Deliver.
Information Technology (IT) Director:
Focus early on setting expectations among team members, especially as IT becomes even more central to all aspects of the work environment. Find one (1) or two (2) projects that are easily accomplished, highly visible, and relatively important -- low-hanging fruit -- and achieve them in the first 90-120 days. Finally, don't be afraid to ask for help -- in fact, budget for professional services and consulting.
February 2016
Information Technology (IT) Director:
Pros: Helping people get what they need to do a good job for their students and their research.
Cons: High stress, untenable workload, competing priorities.
