Bringing fresh perspectives to conservative organizations is difficult but rewarding when you succeed. The hierarchy is a challenge to navigate. It is uncharted territory and you have to find your own ways; Identify opportunities, pursue training in emerging fields; find new applications; develop new tools and processes and promote ideas and educate your coworkers.

It is important to stay current on evolving technology. Be open and willing to use technology in innovative ways to improve efficiencies and increase profit.

Start from where you are and perpetually look forward.

This position is barely about the technology that originally got you into this field. It is much more about negotiating with people across the organization to make sure that all interested parties do what they are supposed to. From a Myers-Briggs perspective, this is very much an ESTJ favored position. How well does your personality fit with these expectations?

With so much changing in the IT world, you need to get any agreements of any kind, perks, pay increase commitments, etc. In writing to ensure they are clearly aware of your expectations and that they follow through with them. If you have nothing in writing, then nothing will happen and you may find that you need to now fight for what was previous agreed upon.
