What is it like working as a Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP)?

November 2022
Small Town Hospital Medical Department Nurse Practitioner.
Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Potsdam:
Pros: The independence to see patients, assess and enact a care plan that leads to patients getting better.
Cons: Communication with administration, bureaucracy now that we have expanded into a much larger health care system.

Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Waukesha:
Loved the team I worked with. Management on the other hand found people to be expendable and found every way to make things work in their favor, not necessarily doing what was right. They get 3 stars because the pay was competitive, but benefits though comprehensive were expensive.

Working in Kansas Citym Kansas is ok.
Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Kansas City:

April 2016
Graduate level education = preparation , not expereince.
Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP):
The hospital environment is not the same as it was2-5 years ago, there is less time to do more and to call/diagnose the problems in a new vocabulary with very different definitions. 1. Find a mentor, and check in regularly. 2. Ask questions/admit what you don't know, research the answers. 3. Be nice (frustrations abound, but nice people get better service/response) 4. Apply your education not just your past experience as a nurse. 5. Allow yourself a full year to acclimatize. Set goals in terms of weeks an months.
