High School Counselor Reviews
What is it like working as a High School Counselor?
March 2022
It has become very computer based. Less interaction with students and their parents.
High School Counselor in Chesapeake:
Pros: I don't feel that my Principal micro-manages me or my position. I like the support that I am given in the case that a parent is unhappy with a decision that I have made in the best interest of the student.
Cons: I feel stagnant. I don't feel that I want to do this for another 10-15 more years before I reach the age for retirement. I want to learn and do something different.
November 2020
Very Rewarding.
High School Counselor in Reston:
Pros: I love working with the kids
Cons: Working from home, writing college rec letters, dealing with college appliction process
March 2015
Rewarding, make a difference, communication, culture, guidan.
High School Counselor:
Pros: I love people, especially young people because they have a tendency to be straightforward, opinionated, open-minded, impressionable. I love to work with young people from all cultures and walks of life. Every individual is different and unique and has grown through different personal experiences and walks of life. I like to think that I am able to provide my students with the personal tools that they need to succeed. These needs vary significantly from student to student and it is up to me to accurately assess the best future course of action for each student individually. It can be very gratifying to know that you had a hand in adequately preparing and informing them about college and possible future career paths leading to happy successful lives!
Cons: The times when I am not sure that I was able to make a positive difference in a young persons life, average pay, limited supplies at times due to lack of local school system supplies and teaching aides.
