Financial Manager Reviews
What is it like working as a Financial Manager?
November 2014
A One Woman Office.
Financial Manager:
Learn everything you can about finances and budgeting. Be prompt with payroll and stay on top of the Accounts Payable as well as Receivables.
July 2014
The More Experience You Gain.
Financial Manager:
The more experience you gain, the lesser and lesser you do the task that initially made you choose this career path, e.g. A nice relaxing bank recon.
However, there is always an opportunity somewhere to share your knowledge and teach a junior. It is therefore very important to teach well, not only the skill of accounting, but also the management style. Believe me your junior will follow in your footsteps, you set the example.
July 2014
Exciting.
Financial Manager:
Pros: Fast paced.
Constant learning.
Working with board.
Cons: Long hours.
Some administrative tasks.
June 2014
Office Conditions.
Financial Manager:
Pros: My co-workers are the best part of my job. The diversity of work with the various companies certainly helps with burnout and boredom in my position even though every month I do have a routine in the types of work/projects that I must complete. The convenience of being close to home is nice but not necessarily something that would keep me from leaving for a better job.
Cons: There is a different set of rules for each department and my department is the most exploited and least rewarded in the office. Most of the department is underpaid because there is no report to show our "worth" to the company like sales can do. Annual salary increases seem to be based upon favoritism and personal relationships with the supervisor. Every year our department has been burdened with more and more work due to the company's growth and yet has experienced the least amount of wages increases compared to the rest of the office. No opportunities for growth or salary increases within the department and moving to a different department within the company has been next to impossible.
January 2014
Financial Manager:
Pros: Mentoring, coaching,
Cons: Work load.
December 2013
Investment Decision, Equity Valuation, Risk Management.
Financial Manager:

Cons: No job of my interest and salary is less.

Stress Levels

Recognise your worth. Communication always with MD, Stand Strong on your gut feeling when advising about future growth and the effect on finances. Recognise that finance depends on sales and continual sales depends depend on production, everything is interlinked. Analysis accounts on a monthly basis - advise MD of changes that need to be made. Keep your eye on the ball at all times. Turnover is great, net margin is betster, cash is King. Plan for VAT. Never get behind on HMRC payments. Recognise when a company is in trouble - make it clear to MD in writing. Never underestimate your vital role. Plan ahead for Corporation tax. Never let the directors account become a loan account.
