Field Service Technician Reviews

What is it like working as a Field Service Technician?

February 2015
Field Service Rat race.
Field Service Technician:
Pros: The perks of the job are the freedom to do what you want, when you want. Little micro-management allows you to make your own schedule and work the hours you please.
Cons: Long days. Constantly on call for jobs that require a 6 hour turn around. Upper management making poor decisions. Terrible logistics which majorly effects efficiency.

It's hard work for little pay.
Field Service Technician:
Pros: I like my co workers and enjoy meeting customers.
Cons: The pay is ridiculous at best.
February 2015
Under paid, good hours in summer. Hard labor.
Field Service Technician:
Pros: The physical workout of labor, being outside when it's warm. Double time on Sunday, time and a half after 8 hours in a days work. Good medical benefits. Great coworkers to work with make work days better than they would normally be.
Cons: Working 16 hr shifts with limited to no breaks when necessary. Under payed employees for the hard labor we do. Limited equipment in our mill compounds that makes our jobs harder. Inconsistent hours, gets slow every year in the winter without vacation holiday pay/ only one week vacation time compared to 2 days a week for 2 months doesn't add up.
January 2015
Working with the World.
Field Service Technician:
I wish I had known more about electronics and the types of people I would be dealing with. A person needs to know going in that, the only reason you have a job is because of the people you'll be working with in the field or over the phone. My advice is: learn your product and work dilligently to do so. It will only make the job easier. Working with the general public all over the world is not and easy thing to do sometimes, but, if you learn your product better than anyone else, it will make the job interesting. When you think you know it all, you'll be surprised how much more you can learn. Technology is always changing and you have to be on the forfront to keep up with changing times and technology.
January 2015
Its low pay as a career.
Field Service Technician:
Get an advanced degree or- at minimum- a 4yr engineering degree while you are young enough to have the spare time. Office equipment service is like quicksand. Avoid it altogether if you consider yourself somewhat talented, because you will not be reimbursed for your skills as they advance and take on new areas. Your wage will become stagnant quickly with any real hope at advancement being sparse.
December 2014
Hard work and Life threatening.
Field Service Technician:
It's a worthy job, but I've had a gun pulled on me many times when I'm trying to collect past due payment or shutting someones water off. Year round, rain sleet or snow. Travel 2 wks out of the month.
