Managing people is harder than Engineering.
Facilities Engineer:
4 words. Directness, Production, Consistency, and Fairness. The hardest thing is to learn how to motivate staff and to keep them on task and productive. Management skills are not something that can be taught in school, but can really only be learned by experience. I highly advise finding a good manager and learning as much as you can. Technical knowledge is important with this job, but the reality is that you will be a jack-of-all trades generalist. The breadth of knowledge you need engineering wise is impossible to attain, so you need to rely on your skilled trades people to guide you within their areas of expertise. The biggest thing is that you need to let go of your ego as an engineer and accept that you will NEVER be an expert at everything. You can only hope to have a general understanding.
