What is it like working as an Education Director?

June 2015
Management.
Education Director:
Pros: Love the work culture, mission and the constant creativity.
Cons: Overworked and understaffed - Not enough support financially to do things departmentally that will move program forward.
March 2015
Rewarding.
Education Director:
Pros: Working for a small non-profit is wonderful because of the liberty one has to run a program from top to bottom. The work is rewarding if you are passionate about the cause because you are dedicating your career to taking action for what you believe is important.
Cons: At times, working for a small non-profit gets overwhelming because you have to run one or more full programs and keep them financially stable simultaneously. Small organizations also often lack the administrative support of larger organizations.
July 2014
Surviving A Non Profit.
Education Director:
Pros: The interactive nature working in a small organization with many demands. As a team we juggle running a school with over 60 classes and 350 students, running an active art exhibitions program and raising money to cover overhead.
Cons: Over worked and underpaid. The structure of non-profits, styled after corporations but without the capital structure to support the demands and pay and recognize the contribution of staff.
