Development Coordinator.
Development Coordinator:
Pros: It is clearly on my decided career path of development.
Cons: I do not consider myself an environmentalist and my personal views and values to not align with coworkers. The organization's needs are growing faster than team growth.
January 2016
Development Coordinator.
Development Coordinator:
Pros: I love the company I work for and how much the company is growing. For the most part, I get along very well with my coworkers and really like them. The office environment is fairy casual and the CEO is friendly and open.
Cons: The stress. I am the only development coordinator in real estate and I am spread very thin between all of our directors and having to handle franchisees as well. I always feel like I am buried with work and there doesn't seem to be an end in site.
October 2015
Creative flexibility, but no room for growth.
Development Coordinator:
Pros: Working a non-profit allows for most of my skill building to be self driven because I wear a lot of hats and learn to be efficient in many things. I also like that my work is benefitting a good cause and I find fulfillment from working with a philanthropic population that cares about investing in non-profits. By working with a diverse portfolio of donors, I get to meet and develop relationships with many people I wouldn't encounter in my normal life.
Cons: As a non-profit development professional, you may be a jack of all trades, but a master of none because you are constantly trying to complete projects with limited resources and never really building a reliable and repeatable model of work. Without the support of a solid foundation (i.e reliable funding), your work can be unpredictable and there usually aren't clear career pathways because there are so few positions per institution.
