Make Sure You Have Access To All The Necessary Tech.
Database Developer:
At your interview, make sure to explain how stressful database development and support actually is. It's very rewarding in professional terms, because you can do really cool things and help employees be productive with your front and back-end applications. But, if you're talented you'll find yourself hitting your head on the ceiling at your current position if your employer is not willing to spend the money to implement the necessary technology. You don't need to be an expert at using software packages, but you need access to them. I.E.: SQL Server on premise, SQL Server Azure, Office 365 E3, SSMS, SharePoint, Adobe eLearning Suite, Microsoft Development Studio. If you're a willing and able employee, with talent, you can learn how to use all that is listed as you perform your job. Then, remember you will need to be paid accordingly. If you are an expert at all the technologies listed, DBA is past your time. You need a bachelor’s degree and start leading your own consulting firm.
