Create something unique and valuable.
It could be a service, an application, a process, or even an idea.
Take it and get it in front of a decision maker who could be able to use it and get their buy-in.
Once you have their buy-in, it will be better to press forward with their blessing on your efforts, than if you didn't have their support.
Keep improving on it and make it better.
Then find something else, and keep the momentum up.
