I recommend accountants get certified in audit as soon as possible. The key to success is in being able to quickly move between tasks and not lose focus or patience when interrupted, be extremely knowledgeable in all facets of accounting, GAAP, psychology, interviewing employers and claimants to investigate claims and render decisions, piece together information, audit records and write formal audit reports, find people/employers (skip-tracing), collect taxes, help diverse people and personalities resolve problems quickly; It is also critical to be able to communicate detailed information easily, answer employer questions and resolve account issues, maintain good working relationships with more than 2500 employers and accounting professionals in an assigned tax district, balance compliance with caring, professional service.
