Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Reviews

What is it like working as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)?

December 2015

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):
November 2015
Good conditions.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):
Pros: Helping people.
Cons: Paper work to much time and not enough with the patients.
November 2015
Advancements limited as a COTA.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):
Learn as much as possible. Don't limit yourself to one area of care. Unfortunately there will be a time that you know more than the OTR and may even be training a new OT grad and you won't get paid as much or get the respect you deserve. Some OT's maybe threatened by COTA and go as far as taking credit for COTA's work. Educate and promote role of COTA, many don't know all that COTA's are licensed to do.
August 2015
No raises given ever.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):

My job.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):
Pros: I love working with children!.
Cons: I'm tired of all the driving !..
May 2015
Rewarding.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):
Pros: I enjoy working with patients and seeing their progress from dependent to independent. The staff that I work with all have a great sense of humor which is important to have when working long hours as well as making therapy fun for the patients.
Cons: There are large gaps in pay scales with COTAs depending on the year you were hired. Some COTAs make over $30-35 and I make $24.48 an hour. I don't like how only one therapist from each discipline can take off even if it's a holiday. My job also is $100% productive so paperwork is on your own time.
