What is it like working as a Career Advisor?
June 2021
Very little reward for the work you do.
Career Advisor in San Antonio:
Pros: Working from home
Cons: Every morning….dealing with department of labor rules and the lazy entitled veterans that don’t want to put any effort into finding a job. I would say they were at least half my clients.

Leading Individuals to Different Promises!
Career Advisor in Kinston:
Pros: Atmosphere, my team members are the best on Campus. I love the group I'm working with.
Cons: Schedule, flexibility

Great place for international exposure.
Career Advisor in Cambridge:
Pros: I love working with all of our international students! They are truly fantastic and makes me happy to come into work everyday. Coaching 1:1 each day provides me with an professional relationship with each student, where they grow right in front of my eyes. When students get jobs, their thanks is above and beyond!
Cons: This place truly is ran like a startup...There is no Human Resource department...there is ZERO structure here. Having 6 campuses across the globe makes each campus somewhat isolated from leadership, so what works in Boston is completely different from the San Francisco campus. No one knows what our VP of Career Development actually does, except get paid mega-bucks. And there definitely is NOT a trickle-down effect for the money. Everyone is paid sporadically based on nothing. Again, this is a BUSINESS, not a institution of higher education. Upper management is only concerned with the bottom line--getting their pay and keeping everyone under them as low as possible. You really have to kiss-ass if you want to get anywhere--but there are also no opportunities for promotions. If someone leaves a higher role, then possibly, but again--if you are not close with upper management, you do not have a chance. Our former director left in April, and in May we were told who would be replacing him... No opportunity to apply or be considered for the role. Extremely frustrating.

Great.
Career Advisor in Los Angeles:
Pros: access to learning and opportunities, and good people
Cons: no advancement opportunities in my department
April 2019
Tiring, mind taxing and long. At the same time it is great to daily come across new challenges that I always generate ideas to correct.
Career Advisor in London:
Pros: The chances that I get to motivate and transform participants with learning difficulties and disabilities, both one on one and in groups.
Cons: Faulty CRM, favoritism and experienced staff.
January 2019
Ok.
Career Advisor in Crestview:
Pros: location from home
Cons: supervisors

Career Advisor:
Great. Beautiful campus. I work with a good team. Each college is very different in dealing with things; very decentralized. There could be more transparent conversations when staff start and leave positions.
