Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education Reviews

What is it like working as an Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education?

March 2021
Just ok.
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Los Angeles:
Pros: teaching the content in a laboratory environment
Cons: interacting with supervisor and administration
September 2020
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in State College:
High perforning researcher atbthe head of my field internationally. Would never recommend this institution long term. This University has a corporation mind-set. I observed unchecked racism, sexism, and transphobia. I personally faced systemic gender discrimination and gaslighting for over a decade. Very poor support for LGBTQIA+ staff and faculty. No administrative ability to sanction offenders, and a focus on national funding at the expense of students, staff, and the life of the professional.
June 2020
A great work environment.
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Cedarville:
Pros: Cedarville respects its employees while providing the resources needed to succeed in their endeavors. As a rule, it hires people it trusts, and then it trusts them. I always feel like the administration truly cares about my academic program and wants to see it succeed for its own sake, not just for the students it brings in.
Cons: The lack of transparency in determination of compensation. There is supposedly an algorithm being used to decide "market value," but there is no way of knowing what that system is. If you are thinking about coming here, it is totally worth it to take a small pay cut like I did (the money I saved in health alone due to lower stress levels and higher satisfaction covered the gap), don't be afraid to negotiate before you sign.
June 2020
Good but looking for Better.
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Commerce:
Pros: Flexibility
Cons: the unknown; don't know what classes I will teach each semester
April 2020
Rewarding on the student level, frustrating at times due to bureaucratic challenges.
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Cincinnati:
Pros: Chance to learn with and contribute to the learning of students.
Cons: Administrative demands
January 2020
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Grove City:
Pros: The students
Cons: Administrative red tape and lack of experience. They don't listen to the feedback we provide.
November 2019
Under valued.
Associate Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Baton Rouge:
Pros: student engagement
Cons: pay and work flow
