Assistant Research Scientist:
Pros: My group is small, so it is easy to communicate with and find members of myteam and others in the building quickly. I am able to communicate with people across various levels of employment.
The laboratory is primarily a contact laboratory, so the analyst could be working on a totally different project every few months.
I am given the opportunity and encouraged to set up most of my experiments with minimal guidance. My boss is available to discuss/evaluate my plans.
Cons: The work can be very tedious... You may find that you will learn just a set of techniques and all you will be doing every day is one of those few techniques over and over again.
There can be some disconnect between the analysts and those higher up in management, in that there will be a demand to have data available within time constraints that cut into the analyst's life outside of work.

Assistant Research Scientist:
Pros: I am involved in a lot of interesting research projects and, because of the size of the company, I am able to have a higher level of involvement than I would ordinarily be allowed at a larger company.
Cons: There is a general lack of organization.
