Assistant Controller Reviews
What is it like working as an Assistant Controller?
February 2015
Don't delay in getting public accounting experience.
Assistant Controller:
I did not get public accounting experience right out of college. I ultimately passed the CPA exam and met the necessary experience requirements to obtain my license, but it was extremely challenging considering the fact that I was working full time while working towards my license. I would definitely recommend that anyone coming out of school with an accounting degree should take a position with a public firm to obtain the necessary experience hours for CPA licensure as soon as possible.

Experience is invaluable while your young... Intern, intern!
Assistant Controller:
Observe all the information you can....glean what you can from all the experiences good/bad as well as experiences that occur with other people.
December 2014
Assistant Controller:
Pros: Closeby and friendly people.
Cons: No organization.
November 2014
Path to success.
Assistant Controller:
To begin your accounting career, put in your time at a large corporation in their accounting pool (assuming you don't go to work directly for the Big 4). Learn everything you can for 2 years, then make the jump to Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager. Learn how to leverage and delegate for 2 years, then find a growing company that can use your honed skill set.
September 2014
Assistant Controller:
Pros: Great people to work with.
Cons: Inconsistent rules among employees.
July 2014
Assistant Controller:
Pros: Enjoy the work, the location and my co-workers.
Cons: Some weeks require 45 to 50 hours per week or longer at year end. At the current time, I also am responsible for benefit administration, including 401K and insurance.
