What is it like working as an Art Preparator?

March 2019
Getting better for artists.
Art Preparator in Barrie:
Pros: Improving relationships through work
Cons: Conservative politics
January 2018
Jack of all trades.
Art Preparator in Kelowna:
Pros: I love working with a good team of creative individuals. I rarely get bored at this job because I am always faced with new challenges and obstacles to overcome. This job requires me to have an applied knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, lighting, electrical maintenance, general curatorial knowledge, hanging artwork, museology, safety, professional driving, administrative work, machine operation I.e various genies and lifts. It is a very demanding job.
Cons: I feel often mismanaged and emotionally manipulated by my boss. There is a palpable negative tension around meetings and especially discussions around tasks. I think more trust is essential in management, I know I'm good at my job. The other con is that I am being held at 'part-time' status and not receiving any health benefits, even though I am regularly required to work full hour weeks in conjunction with gallery installations. Sometimes working 40 hours+ in a week. This feels unjust to me.
