Academic Support Specialist Reviews
What is it like working as an Academic Support Specialist?
May 2014
Small Group And 1:1 Work With Students In Academia.
Academic Support Specialist:
Pros: Working in a college writing center teaching undergraduate and graduate students strategies to improve their writing and their course presentations.
Cons: Environment is not conducive to focusing on student writing. Newly designed office has high noise level and space design antithetical to work we do. In addition, specialists who used to be able to teach as adjunct faculty are no longer able to do so because of new policies. In most U. S. College and university writing centers, staff work part time in the writing center and teach courses as adjunct faculty. This benefits both the institution and the students. Work flexibility has decreased dramatically and the organization culture has become more rigid.
