Xsport Fitness - Gotta have a soldier mentality, tough skin, and no life outside of xsport.
Assistant General Manager (AGM) in Chicago, Illinois:
Pros: It’s the easiest but hardest job. It sells itself but also unsells itself.
Cons: No work life balance, 55-70 hr weeks, 11 hour minimum workdays, 5-6 days a week. Always on call, and never a consistent weekly schedule. constant employee turnover, constant labor reduction so the company can save money in turn making salaried employees Work more, which causes less quality gyms and less quality sales, constant emails & texts from regional/area directors about little detail processes not being done. Over communication, dictatorship. You have to punch in and punch out for breaks even if you’re on salary. You can’t leave because you are constantly needed. So people punch out and still work, or eat while they work. If we don’t, we get written up, if we do then they are safe from lawsuits for not “giving us breaks” according to labor laws. They know how to bend rules and laws and be barley legal in everything they do. Everything is a gray area. They don’t understand the ratio of quality and quantity. They want extreme quality as well as a high quantity of sales also number of hours worked, the more hours an individual works the less quality you will get. Sales commissions get de-commissioned for stupid things, the company gets to keep the members money, the member still had a membership but we don’t get paid comission because the member wrote their first name and last name in one line instead of 2 separate lines? That’s just one example. Not only do you have to fight hard to make the sale and earn the comission, you have to fight twice as hard to keep it!
