Cons: The nurse-patient ratios are, to my experience, unsafe. Given a 1:6-7 ratio, acuity of the patient's needs, census of 26-28, with 4 nurses, 1 aide. Preventing falls, med errors, maintaining patients satisfaction, timely interventions, rn mediating bet. MD and patients and family request for plan of care and updates, timely documentation, and implementing all hospital policies (infection control, visitation times, education of patient and family, smoking, etc), MD orders to be carried out, rechecking or follow up on procedures, labs, and diagnostics, given the no. Of personel at hand to carry these out are not congruent to the outcomes expected. Management has been promising to hire more, but this has been going on for the last 3 yrs. Many are leaving because of the stressful environment, and hiring new ones to replace them are not timely. More have left than the no. Of people being hired.
