Meaningful Work.
Mechanical Engineer in San Diego, California:
Pros: Take on many responsibilities with Autonomy. Working in R&D to solve a worldwide multigenerational problem - abundant, clean energy production. Highly technical and challenging, with appropriate support from incredibly brilliant and experienced colleagues who are eager to help. Work is recognized not only through fair compensation, but also through positive daily interactions with peers, managers, and support staff. Core working hours are generally consistent and predictable, with some in-frequent voluntary long hours as needed. Managers are flexible about planned time off, and occasional unscheduled personal time for kids, errands, etc. Limited travel so good for family. Great health benefits and job security.
Cons: PTO for 1st year is lower than previous jobs and ramps up slowly. 401k match is not fully vested for 5 years. No OT and incentive pay (bonus) is not as transparent as previous jobs.
Interesting, Good Experience, but Stressful.
Business Systems Analyst in San Diego, California:
Pros: Interacting with the business and my peers
Cons: Some managers don't think about work loads. If you're not careful then you'll be asked to do more work than you can do in 40-45 hours a week. Also, salaried job but expected to work 40+ hours with given workloads. (It varies, I've seen others with lower workloads).
